Open data
The cleaned tables behind this site, free for any use without permission or attribution (though a link back helps others find the source). Each file regenerates with the same nightly pipeline that rebuilds the pages, so it is never older than what you read here. Current snapshot: October 26, 2026.
One row per federal campground in the United States, drawn from the Recreation.gov RIDB export and the Forest Service recreation directory. Each row carries the managing agency, the parent recreation area, coordinates, whether sites can be reserved, the site count, electric, water and sewer hookups, pets and campfire rules, the longest RV any site accepts, a confirmed-free flag, and the booking and official page links. Campgrounds inside National Park System units are included and marked with their Park Service page.

Provenance and cadence
Source: the Recreation.gov RIDB full export, downloaded and reprocessed nightly, with Forest Service campgrounds that RIDB does not carry added from the Forest Service recreation directory. Amenity flags roll up from campsite-level records, so "electric" means at least one site reports it. Absence of the confirmed-free flag is not proof a campground charges; it means the fee record did not say "no fee" explicitly. The full source list is on the methodology page.
State: RIDB has no address record for roughly one campground in six, and its address state is the mailing office, which sits across a state line for about 4% of facilities. Where the address is missing, state is derived from the facility coordinates against Census state boundaries, then from the parent recreation area.
A GitHub Actions job refreshes the underlying data nightly and republishes these files; the snapshot date above changes only when the data does. A mirrored copy with version history lives at github.com/kirkwood-justin/campsite-atlas-data, where the commit log doubles as a changelog. Corrections and questions: open an issue.
